King's Park Academy

School Council

Here at King’s Park, student voice is important to us. We use our School Council to ensure children have a say in certain decisions that are made about our school. The School Council is made up of one child from each class from Year 2 to Year 6 who have been elected by the children in their class. Our School Council allows all children in the school to share ideas, opinions and suggestions and enables democracy to be maintained within the school.

School Councillors hold an important role, often representing the school and taking responsibility for activities in school. They have organised and held cake sales, baked for families evening and provided ideas for our Family Fun Days.

Recently the school council visited London for a tour of Parliament, visiting both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. We were lucky enough to witness a number of debates taking place before partaking in a workshop about creating new laws.

The School Council also felt that as a school we need to do more to support the local community and reduce our carbon footprint. They decided to set up an additional ‘Eco Council’ and ‘Community Care Council.’ The children created application forms for the rest of the school before interviewing and appointing children to fill those positions. Both new councils are up and running and are having a positive impact on life at KPA and in the wider community.

Some topics currently up for discussion include:

  • How we can further incorporate our house system into life at KPA
  • Setting up a KPA Art Gallery to celebrate achievements
  • How we can improve our outdoor spaces

We look forward to sharing ideas on the above to further improve our school.
