King's Park Academy

Curriculum Overview

At King’s Park Academy, our curriculum is carefully designed to be progressive, knowledge-rich, and ambitious for all learners. We aim to provide a high-quality education that equips pupils with deep knowledge, critical thinking skills, and the confidence to express themselves clearly and effectively.

Progressive and Coherent Learning

Our curriculum is built on a clear progression of knowledge and skills. Each subject is thoughtfully sequenced to ensure pupils revisit and deepen their understanding over time, enabling them to make secure connections across the curriculum and retain knowledge in the long term.

Knowledge-Rich with a Focus on Vocabulary

A central feature of our curriculum is the explicit teaching of subject-specific vocabulary. We believe that language unlocks learning, and that vocabulary acquisition is key to success across the curriculum. Pupils are taught to use and apply new vocabulary confidently, enabling them to explain their thinking and engage in rich discussion.

Adapted and Relevant Resources

We use a range of high-quality schemes and resources which we adapt to meet the specific needs of our pupils. This allows us to create a curriculum that reflects our context, links meaningfully across subjects, and ensures that learning is both rigorous and relevant.

Cross-Curricular Connections

Our curriculum is designed to support cross-curricular learning, helping pupils to make links between subjects and apply their knowledge in different contexts. This interdisciplinary approach enhances understanding, promotes deeper thinking, and encourages pupils to see themselves as capable learners across all areas of study.

Enrichment and Use of Our Unique Learning Spaces

We make full use of our school facilities and local environment to enrich the curriculum and support active, experiential learning:

Our dedicated textiles and cookery room allows pupils to explore practical skills in design, nutrition, and creative arts, developing confidence and independence through hands-on experiences.

Our Forest School programme promotes outdoor learning, resilience, teamwork, and a connection with nature. Pupils engage with the natural world through practical activities that support science, geography, wellbeing, and personal development.

Educational visits, workshops, and guest speakers further enhance learning, provide cultural context, and build pupils’ cultural capital.

Rooted in Community and Context

We are proud to be part of a vibrant local community and seek to embed local links throughout the curriculum. Where possible, pupils learn about the history, geography, and culture of their local area, developing a sense of place and responsibility as active citizens.
