School Uniform
This is considered to be a very important aspect of school life and an indicator of a desire to set high standards. It is expected that children will come to school appropriately dressed. Uniform is compulsory and we are confident that parents/carers want their children to feel part of our community. Wearing school specific clothing helps this process.
Our policy for dress is designed to be:
- appropriate for school activities
- supportable by all concerned – parents, carers, pupils, staff and the academy advisory committee
- encouraging of community spirit and identity
- easily obtainable, maintainable and inexpensive

This is important for hygiene and also helps to keep the school building clean. Gymnastics and dance are undertaken in bare feet as recommended, Trainers are advocate for football to protect the children’s feet.

Hair:
- All hair at below or shoulder length (both boys and girls) must be tied back at all times in school, but especially during PE and games lessons. School hair ties should be appropriate colours and styles suitable to blend with school uniform (blue/black bands). Hair should be off the face, clipped back and not obscuring sight. Bows are not allowed.
- Hair should not be shorter than a Grade 3 cut and pupils should not wear extreme hair fashions which are designed to attract attention. This includes dyed or streaked hair and styles such as spikes, mohicans and images or lines cut into the hair.
Jewellery:
- Apart from plain stud earrings and watches (which have an educational value in helping children to learn how to tell the time and take responsibility for their own time keeping), the wearing of jewellery in school is not permitted. Items can easily get lost or damaged, or may be the cause of injury. the school cannot accept responsibility for loss of such articles.
- During any physical education school, children must not wear and jewellery because of the safety aspect. Children must therefore not wear stud earrings to school on PE days or after school activities.
- Please try and arrange fir your child to have their ears pierced at the very beginning of the summer holidays so that by September no studs should need to be worn. As all children’s ears are different and the healing rate varies there might be the need to wear studs for slightly longer than the recommended time of six weeks. If this is the case, then the studs must be removed either by the child or parent before the PE lesson begins. PE, games and swimming are all compulsory part of the National Curriculum and children are required to take part in all sessions.
