King's Park Academy

Science

At King’s Park Academy, our science curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity, inspire a love for discovery, and develop a deep understanding of the world through exploration and investigation. Within each science project delivered through the Cornerstones Curriculum we aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills, and methods to think scientifically and apply their learning in real-world contexts.

  • Knowledge and Skills Development: Our curriculum ensures the simultaneous teaching of substantive knowledge (core scientific facts, concepts, and theories) and disciplinary knowledge (understanding how science works and how to investigate scientifically).
  • Types of Scientific Enquiry: Children are introduced to and develop skills in the six key types of scientific enquiry, including:
  • Observing changes over time.
  • Identifying and classifying.
  • Pattern seeking.
  • Research using secondary sources.
  • Comparative and fair testing.
  • Exploring and raising questions.
  • Purposeful Investigations: Our curriculum prioritises high-quality, purposeful scientific investigations that enable children to ask questions, make predictions, test ideas, and draw conclusions.
  • Interconnected Learning: Science lessons are carefully sequenced, building on prior knowledge and interconnected with other subjects to ensure continuity, progression, and real-life relevance.
