History
At King’s Park Academy, our History curriculum ignites curiosity and equips children with the skills and knowledge to understand the complexity of the past. Within each project delivered through the Cornerstones Curriculum, through the study of a wide range of historical periods, from chronological British history to local and wider world history, we provide a rich and inclusive curriculum that reflects the contributions of diverse groups and brings history to life.
- Chronological Understanding: Our curriculum ensures children develop a secure understanding of historical chronology, allowing them to make meaningful connections between events and periods in British, local, and world history.
- Exploring Diverse Contributions: We ensure children study the contributions of different groups to historical progress, reflecting the diversity of society and encouraging a more inclusive understanding of the past.
- Substantive and Disciplinary Knowledge: Pupils are taught substantive knowledge (key historical facts, concepts, and events) and disciplinary knowledge (how historians investigate and interpret the past).
- Local History Focus: We celebrate and explore school-based local history, helping children connect with their community and develop a sense of place and identity.
- Engaging with Artefacts: Our curriculum emphasizes interaction with quality historical artefacts, enabling children to develop inquiry skills and a tangible connection to the past.
